We’re a nation that loves to grill and today I’m going to review a really great grill/griddle that is dishwasher safe and that you can use indoors or outdoors.
It is Curtis Stone Reversible Grill/Griddle with Lid.
This grill has something that not many grills have – a splatter guard, a lid. The lid is really unique and it does two things.
First, if you are grilling next to a wall, then all of that splashing is getting stopped by the lid. The other thing it can do is it can drop down just like it would a hood system on a barbecue outside. It’s trapping some of that steam and creating a bit of an oven.
Sometimes you’ll have girls outside that have that lid that falls down. This does the exact same thing.
Once you grilled your steak, it will have nice grill marks, that caramelization. You want that sweetness. What’s happening in the protein is that the natural sugars are being drawn to the surface and that’s gonna increase the sweetness of what it is that you’re grilling and that’s why grilling tastes so good.
The cleanup of this grill is so simple. You just need a little wet cloth and all that fat just runs straight down the little holes. And you can start cooking again.
The great thing about this is the heat retention in the actual grill/griddle. It’s important to know exactly where the heat comes from.
What they’ve done is they have put the element sandwiched right in the center of the grill/griddle. It is literally cast into the metal so that is never go anywhere and the heat is instant and the heat retains really, really well.
When steaks come off the grill, they are juicy on the inside and you’ve got that gorgeous crust on the outside. That’s how you want your steaks to look like.
Once again, this a griddle and a grill, so it’s two in one.
This is the only girl in the world that has this lid. Now the ingenious thing about this lid is you can remove it if you want. It helps the splatter but you could also use it to steam or poach. So if you want to do steamed fish as an example or steamed asparagus or vegetables.
There is also your fat trapper. So all of that fat drains away in these ingenious channels.
This grill is built to last. This is not some plastic. That’s a die-cast aluminum and what they did is actually immerse the heating element inside the metal itself.
So that’s why there are no hot and cold spots. That means that you get beautiful, even heat distribution and you also get that heat retention. So if you’re gonna put something cold on, it’s gonna start cooking again instantly.
Meat has really nice grill marks, any grill master would be excited to see them. And when you are cooking dozens of burgers, they all look even. So you can cook a little, you can cook a lot.

You can go ahead and put cheese on top of burgers. Nothing is worse than a cheeseburger where cheese does not melt. So when you put the lid down, you will bring up some of heat and keep it down, that’s gonna melt the cheese right before your very eyes.
You know how I was saying how that heating element is embedded in the metal. Well, you can see how evenly browned things are on the grill and that’s the mark of a great grill or griddle.
You can also place a pan on this. You can use it as a buffet warmer. You can do that as a portable stove top. In fact a pan will come to the boil, you’ll actually be able to bring a liquid to the boil, it gets that hot.
Shrimps come really great on this. If you want to steam them, just add a little white wine, drop the lid down and you’re gonna steam these in 60 seconds. Some of them you don’t even really need to turn because of the steam that is circulating around the top.
It’s just like dropping the lid down on your grill outside, if you’re lucky enough to have one of those beautiful big grills that has the hood and you can pull it down, when you sort of need that oven environment.
So it’s a grill, it’s a griddle, it’s a buffet warmer, it’s a portable stove if you will, you can steam your shrimp, your asparagus, I mean, it is so versatile, it’s amazing.
You’re getting the crispness on the outside and the reason you can do it is because you can go from 450 degrees all the way down to warm so, 400, 350, 300, 250, 200 and then warm. So you can literally have it really low or you can have it really high.
If you only do bacon on this, it makes the crispiest, crunchiest bacon in the world! But all the fat drains away. That’s what’s so cool, that’s what’s really key because I love my bacon but I just don’t like it when it lays in a pan in that pile of grease.
From fish to breakfast to brunch, you will use this grill for absolutely every meal and that’s the thing that I find so amazing about it.
I never want to put mine away and you won’t either because, remember you’ll use it for breakfast, lunch and dinner, even for french toast. I mean anything and everything in between, you can do it all with this grill, it cleans up in a minute, you literally wipe it off with a damp paper towel.
