Philips electric smokeless grill with infrared heat technology. It is such a lovely addition to your kitchen.
You know the name Phillips, you know that people trust them for more than a hundred years in our homes but when it comes to infrared technology and the fact that this is smoke-less, this is fascinating.
You can grill year round and if there’s one thing this smoke-less grill has done, it has made people’s lives easier in the kitchen.
It’s allows you to be able to grill all year round. Who wants to stand out in the freezing cold at the grill or if you’re in an apartment, you’re in a smaller area, you don’t have the space, it is such a small compact unit although at the same time you get so much done on it.
See my favorite indoor electric grill!
I use it no less than four times a week. I did not anticipate having that much use out of it and it has completely changed everything about how I do things in the kitchen.
The grill itself is 20 and a half inches high, nine and a quarter inches wide and one and a quarter inches long. So really nice dimensions there.
One of the things that I love is that this is a great gift for the person that likes to grill. You’re giving them the gift of the capability of grilling year-round. This is already customer top-rated.
When I say infrared heat technology what does that mean?
There are red infrared beams inside and what happens is it is coming upwards as opposed to going down, it’s not heating the bottom of the unit, so you’re keeping the bottom cold, you’re heating the surface of the grill to 446 degrees which someone smart figured out is the perfect grilling temperature and the entire surface is heated to the exact same temperature.
So it stays consistently hot on top but the grill on the bottom, the drip tray is cool. You can pull the drip tray out, you have all of this grease on the tray, not in your body and that’s what helps keep this from smoking, to keep just the minimal amount of smoke.
The other thing I love about it is it’s just like a regular grill. You just don’t have charcoal or gas. You are getting searing and sizzle of the outdoor grill inside. It also allows you to stand over the food.
Nothing’s more intimidating to me then being outside and closing the lid on that barbecue. And when you come back to that grill and lift the lid, what comes out is just blinding smoke.
With this, I’m able to take my food and watch over it while I’m doing everything else in the kitchen. This has been a huge game-changer for me.
This has 80% less smoke than traditional grilling. So you’re not gonna send the dogs running when the fire alarm goes off!
If you were on a regular grill and you were putting gooey sugary sauce on and it was dripping down, I mean you could pour it on this and it’s not going to smoke up your house, you’ll get some smoke but it’s not a significant amount. It’s virtually smokeless.
And it’s such easy cleanup. It is dishwasher safe. It’s got cool touch handles so you can actually lift this grill up while the heat is on. It’s five minutes flat to clean this up afterwards. They are dishwasher safe, I personally just toss them in the sink and wash them off.
The technology has made things not only easier in terms of cooking and what you’re able to cook, but it also makes cleanup so much easier.
The grill is is also lightweight. It is easy to set up, you walk in the kitchen, you pull it out, plug it in, turn it on. There are just two settings: the keep warm setting and the 446 degrees. It just takes a couple minutes to heat up and it makes life so much easier.
It makes such a perfect steak and what it really cooks best are things that you don’t have to do a bunch of marinades to get everything good. Food tastes like you were outside all morning. It cuts down on so much time.
Again about infrared heat technology, it reflects straight up so that drip tray on the bottom is staying cool. That is the key to keeping these smokeless or virtually smokeless. You’re able to keep that cool so anything that drips down on there is not smoking.
You do not have to keep your food warm someplace. You don’t need to worry about the food getting cold because you can put it on the warm setting and it stays warm the whole time.
What about grilling corn and vegetables? You’re able to put any of your vegetables on the grill that you want to put on it.
This is eighty percent less smoke than traditional grilling. This was made for inside. It’s got a three foot four inch long cord so if you want to move it around your kitchen you can.
I could literally set it on my counter and grill up. You don’t have the grease, the fat splattering all over. If I do this on the stove top, there would be mess and the smoke.
It’s the innovative technology from a brand we trust. What a fun addition to our kitchens and a great gift for everybody too.
Benefits of Infrared Grills
I often get asked what is an infrared burner or grill and what sets them apart. Is it something special that I should actually consider installing in my kitchen?
With most high quality infrared grills you can enjoy the great benefits of quick preheat times, faster cooking times, even heat distribution across the grill surface, juicier food overall and Steakhouse quality searing.
When describing infrared burners versus conventional burners, basically the way I try to explain it is conventional style gas burners will produce heat that’s more diffuse, sort of like a flashlight, whereas the heat that comes from an infrared is very direct and concentrated more like a laser beam.
That’s why infrared broilers are generally used in steak houses for the intense sear and crust they can produce at extremely high temperatures.
The design of an infrared burner is basically a gas chamber area covered by some sort of radiant panel. This allows infrared grills to have very even heat across the cooking surface.
The most common design you’ll find is a perforated ceramic tile covered with a protective stainless mesh.
The most unique design of an infrared system that I’ve seen is used inside TEC grills where radiant glass panels evenly spread out the heat from the burners as it rises to your food. These TEC grills are about the most even cooking grills you’ll ever use.
Of the various practical advantages of infrared, one of my favorites is the incredibly quick preheat time. With an infrared grill you’ll be ready to cook within three to five minutes, making them perfect for a busy schedule.
You’ll also notice the food you cook over infrared will be cooked to perfection in a fraction of the time compared to cooking over conventional burners.
When I’m looking to cook the perfect steak, the main feature I’m looking for is the ability to reach temperatures between around 800 and a thousand degrees. At these temperatures you’ll get excellent grill marks, caramelization and beautiful crusts across the entire surface of your steak.
Solaire grills and their ceramic infrared burners produce some of the highest heat outputs you’ll find.
Now when you look past the great exterior sear that you get with infrared grilling, you’ll also find that the food you cook over infrared will be incredibly juicy. The reason behind this is that infrared works to eliminate the convective air movement that a conventional burner uses to heat your food.
When grilling over infrared, the moisture barrier of your food remains intact. Real-world translation – the food you grill will retain up to 30% more moisture.
A common misconception about infrared grills is that they’re only designed to cook well at high temperatures.
Top grill brands in the industry such as TEC and Lynx are constantly innovating and have created variable temperature infrared cooking systems.
The TEC patio F4 series of grills uses a variable temperature stainless steel burner underneath TEC’s radiant glass panels .With this unique design, TEC has made it possible to grill at a low of about 200 degrees or up to a high of about 900 degrees which is a huge temperature range for an infrared grill.
This makes it possible to enjoy the benefits of infrared even when cooking something fairly low and slow.
The Trident Pro CR burner by Lynx is another great option if you want a variable temperature infrared burner. Cook something like shrimp at lower temperatures or crank up the heat to high for steak house searing.
If you’re interested in having the option of cooking over infrared or conventional burners, there are plenty of hybrid grills on the market which will typically feature several conventional burners paired with one infrared zone.
If the bulk of your cooking will be over conventional burners, infrared side burners are also a great option. With this type of setup you don’t have to dedicate any of your main grilling area to an infrared zone giving you the best of both worlds.
